Position Title - Technical Manager - Papermill
Location - Springfield, OH
Description -
Our client is a major Electrical Technology Company who has a Papermill subsidiary with recycled paper equipment. The mill, located in central Ohio, manufactures specialty paperboard and converts the paperboard for use as insulation for electrical transformers. The mill operates 5 or 6 days per week depending upon raw material availability and internal need. There are approximately 150 employees supporting the papermill and over 20 specialty paper converting equipment machines including creping machines, celled-styled printing press applying specialty coatings, slitting and combining operations.
The Technical Manager is responsible for the implementation of sound papermaking and converting practices through process control, product development, quality control and supervision of related personnel. This role will proactively provide technical support to both the internal and external customers of our client. Reports to the Plant General Manager.
Responsibilities:
Assess and recommend solutions for paper machine equipment for the mill
Create, coordinate and establish quality specifications for paper and converted product. Plan and conduct production trials on paper machines related to raw material evaluations, process issues, etc. through statistical process control
Document, evaluate and complete post-run analysis with customers and make any necessary adjustment to the specifications, calibrations, control limits, etc.
Create, in cooperation with Paper Machine Manager, the operating parameters and control limits for the paper and converting machines to ensure quality and productivity
Periodically assist in troubleshooting and maintaining paper and converting machine process issues
Assess new customer specifications for paper products against local process capabilities.
Conduct product transfer from other company and non-company facilities
Provide expert advice for forming and stock preparation
Interact and assist with Engineering firms and other members of the team to facilitate the Regulators to put environmental permits in place
Advise customers with engineering and scientific support
Create and implement reporting systems for environmental compliance with the permits. Ensure systems are in place and followed for the selection storage and safe use of specialty Recruit technical staff. Participate in the recruitment of other mill staff, engineers, quality technicians and environmental technicians.
Interact with the Engineering & Maintenance Manager to ensure smooth coordination of project activities
Budget development and compliance for Technical Department
Technical training of new employees
Requirements -
Bachelors degree in Paper Science and Engineering or Chemical Engineering
10 years minimum experience in paper manufacturing or related field
5+ years lean 6 sigma experience
Strong leadership skills
Outstanding troubleshooting skills using defined analytical techniques
Good working understanding of environmental regulations
Able to work in a team environment from the operating floor to the CEO
Demonstrated ability to lead cross functional projects and tea
Effectively utilize computer-based applications including Microsoft Office and AutoCAD.
Experience managing multiple departments in a continuous process mill/facility
Able to effectively work across departments (Sales, marketing, T&I, manufacturing)
Able to influence both upward and downward in the organization
Working knowledge in product development, product performance, and quality systems as it will have a role in Product Management
Change Agent can drive change as well as influence change.
Mentor to the Process Engineers
Technical Interface for the Plant and Sales and Commercial Team
Compensation -
Salary is negotiable, depending upon experience presented, to $175,000 with potential for 25% incentive based on plant and company performance. Relocation package provided.
