Position Title - Plant Manager - Folding Cartons

Location - Toronto, Ontario, CA

Description -
Our client is a major multi-plant manufacturer of linerboard and folding cartons. The Toronto plant makes folding cartons and process equipment includes a single 40” Sheet-Fed Printing Press plus cutting, folding and gluing equipment. Annual sales total about $40 million.

The Plant Manager is responsible for leading and managing the facility to achieve safety, quality, service and productivity targets and expectations. Through effective working partnerships with sales, sales & operations support, the incumbent balances customer needs with optimizing operational effectiveness. Also responsible for implementing manufacturing policies and programs that maintain and improve the company’s competitive position and profitability of the operation. The position reports to the VP & GM Canada.

This is a great opportunity for a current Operations Manager coming out of Folding Carton, Packaging or Printing environment.

Responsibilities Include:
• Improve productivity and decrease waste through the identification and implementation of CI initiatives and projects. I
• Increase labor efficiency and utilization, including staffing and overtime.
• Optimize inventory turns and reduce aged board inventory to meet cash targets.
• Meet or exceed standards for environmental, safety, working conditions and cleanliness through daily oversight and direction of management team.
• Develop and implement processes and procedures to continually improve quality and reduce customer complaints.
• Direct management team to ensure productivity targets are monitored and achieved across all facility assets.
• Ensure facility assets are appropriately maintained through planning and implementation of maintenance programs and procedures, including preventative maintenance and reliability programs.
• Manage overall spending against budget and in relation to changes in production volume.
• Manage facility maintenance budget within parameters.
• Provide local support and coordination on facility capital projects
• Drive and implement high performance management practices, including Lean Sigma, daily management processes and other related programs.
• Partner with HR function to hire, train and evaluate team members. Assess performance and take corrective action as necessary on a timely basis and in accordance with company policy. Ensure compliance with current federal, state and local employment regulations.
• Establish group and individual accountabilities through annual goal planning and performance reviews.
• Develop talent through assignments, job rotations, promotions to build bench strength and succession planning.
• Drive a change in culture to improve employee involvement initiatives and practices. Build, improve and maintain a productive and engaged relationship with hourly associates.

Requirements -
• Bachelor’s degree – Masters degree a plus
• 7–10 years of operational management experience in the packaging industry with folding carton experience a plus.
• Technical and problem solving skills.
• Demonstrated ability to facilitate process improvement teams.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills, ability to communicate vision/mission.
• Strong interpersonal skills, ability to motivate people.
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Office, Outlook and Internet skills.
• Lean Manufacturing experience a plus.
• Citizen of Canada currently living in the greater Toronto area. No relocations.

Compensation -
Salary is negotiable, depending upon experience presented, to 115K plus 20% bonus opportunity
